"Goose" USDAA Name: Goose PD1 PS1 PJ1 PG1 PK1 AKC name: Carolina's Duck Duck Goose MX MXJ NAP NJP XF RN UKC Name: UKC Ch. Carolina's Duck Duck Goose
We are proud to introduce Goose the Boykin Spaniel! He's a great family dog and in training for a versatile future in dog sports. His enthusiasm for work knows no bounds. Goose has grown into a biddable, motivated, curly brown, golden eyed sportsman that who loves to crank it up a notch at trials. As a 4 month old puppy Goose won a UKC Best Puppy in Show. In December 2005 Goose completed his UKC Championship in 4 shows (3 days). He found that trotting around a show ring in circles was boring and much preferred racing around at top speed.
The breed was first allowed to compete in AKC Companion Dog Events (agility, tracking, obedience, and rally) on July 1, 2006. On the morning of July 1 Goose earned his first leg in Novice B Jumpers With Weaves. Later that day he earned a Novice B Standard leg and on July 2 he earned his 2nd Nov. Standard and JWW legs. Fast forward to the next Saturday at the Bon Clyde Center in Sanford, NC for the Danville Kennel Club trials: Goose became the First Boykin Spaniel in history to earn an AKC agility title! He earned his NA title in the morning and followed it up with his NAJ title in the afternoon. In these first 6 runs Goose took 5 blue ribbons and one red (July 2's JWW run). We are thrilled that our then 18-month old puppy with no prior ring experience has faired this well.
Unfortunately, Goose has a been found to have a genetic disorder that appears to stem from many of the original Boykin Spaniel Society bloodlines called EIC or Exercise Induced Collapse. Because of this his practice times must be limited to mild temperatures and for short periods of time. This has limited our plans to work in some sports such as hunt tests, tracking, and outdoor summertime agility trials due to the possibility of exposing him to suffering a potentially fatal episode.
